Wednesday Evening Walk -Golden Gardens Park - Seattle

Let's do a series of urban forest walks.  We will be walking on trails in parks and probably some neighborhoods surround the parks. The paths may be muddy, dusty, uneven and rocky in places.  Come prepared with proper footwear - no flip flops or crocs.  There may be some uphill and down but I will try not to make it too strenuous and if you have difficulty let me know and I may be able to provide an alternate route.  We will walk 3-5 miles, in about 1.5 to 2 hours (starting promptly at 7 we will be done by 9pm)

This week  we will hike through the trails of Golden Gardens and the Walkway next to the beach (dogs not allowed on the beaches)

Located in Ballard on Puget Sound, this popular park offers extraordinary views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

A recent project restored two wetlands, established a short loop trail, and restored the northern beach. Golden Gardens offers strolls along a rugged coastline, hikes through forest trails, sunbathing on sandy beaches, fishing from a pier and a boat launch.

The park is also home to an off-leash area for dogs in the upper northern portion of the park. Dogs are not allowed on beaches, or children's play areas in Seattle parks, per the Seattle Municipal Code.

Remember that the weather is getting warmer and access to water may not always be available along the way (but is in some cases) so bring along water for your dogs and yourself.

Dogs in attendance must be leashed and have their owner present.

Children under the age of 12 must be in a stroller, leashed or have a separate handler than the dog. They are not allowed to walk the dog and must be respectful and stay away (unless invited) from dogs that are not their own.

We will make it a priority to walk as a group.  Paces may be a little different but I will stop along the way for others to catch up.  Everybody needs to watch out for others.  Let somebody know if you need a break or are going to turn around/

Please check email or this site the day of the event for any last minute changes or cancellations due to weather, road closures, illness, etc.  I will try to post last minute details by 7am.

Great. Beautiful views, sail boats, beavers, lots of dogs and really nice people. Oh, and a little bit of a workout, too.

Hate to miss this, but I don't fancy the 30 miles on I-5 in this unstable weather. Fergus and I hiked Dash Point this morning.
See some of you Saturday, and have a great walk tonight.

-5 Northbound or Southbound: Take exit to 85th St and head west.
Follow 85th West to 32nd Ave. NW
Take a right onto Golden Gardens Drive
You should see the dog park area about half way down the hill on the right. If you get all the way down to the beach you have gone too far.
Check back here before leaving. I think the weather should be okay to go, but in case of thunder lightning storm like last night I will cancel. I do wait until at least 5pm before making that decision however.
I start pretty much right at 7pm so we can be done before dark. If you are running late you can park near the beach and you should see us descending from the trails and starting our beach walk about 7:20-7:30 ish.
See you all later. Have a good day.

We will be happy to have you back. Are you able to do the trails or do you want to meet us on the lower portion and do the flat paved walk only. Let me know.

I hope to make it, my first outing. I know my dog Ruger will be very disappointed if we don't go.

Sounds like fun. Is the off leash at the north end of Golden Gardens?
