Wed. Evening Walk-Lake Ballinger, Interurban Trail - Edmonds/Mountlake Terrace

Daylight savings time, spring and summer, evening walks. The extra light gives us more options and the opportunity to explore park trails as well as surrounding neighborhoods.  We will be able to see things we don't usually get to see on our dark winter evening walks.

We may be walking on trails in parks and probably some neighborhoods surround the parks. The paths may be muddy, dusty, uneven and rocky in places.  Come prepared with proper footwear - no flip flops or crocs.  There may be some uphill and down but I will try not to make it too strenuous and if you have difficulty let me know and I may be able to provide an alternate route.  We will walk 3-5 miles, in about 1.5 to 2 hours (starting promptly at 7 we will be done by 9pm)

Meet in the parking lot by the old Lake Ballinger Golf Course Club House (now senior center).  We will walk around the park and then along the interurban trail for a bit.  Please note that the park can be a little marshy after a wet period and that there is an excessive amount of goose poop  (that may be tasty for your dog and gross on your shoes - so wear footwear that you don't mind getting wet and poopy).

Ballinger Park, a 42-acre passive park opened to the public in September of 2013 after the former golf course closed in late 2012.

The Interurban Trail (North) runs for 25 miles between Everett, Washington, in the north and the Seattle neighborhoods of Bitter Lake and Greenwood in the south. The trail—which is not to be confused with the more southerly trail of the same name stretching between Tukwila, Pacific and Fife—follows the old right-of-way used by the Seattle-Everett Interurban, which connected the two cities in the early 20th century.

Dogs in attendance must be leashed and have their owner present.

No children under the age of 12, unless they are in a stroller.

We will make it a priority to walk as a group.  Paces may be a little different but I will stop along the way for others to catch up.  Everybody needs to watch out for others.  Let somebody know if you need a break or are going to turn around/

Please check email or this site the day of the event for any last minute changes or cancellations due to weather, road closures, illness, etc.  I will try to post last minute details by 7am.

I did show up in the hopes that this was a passing thunder shower. I could see the light at the edges of the clouds all around, but alas, the clouds stayed put, and so did the rain/hail/snow. It was cold but my dogs had fun eating the goose doo, rolling in the goose doo, and chasing the goose doo covered tennis ball until my feet got too wet and cold. Hope you all had sunshine wherever you were. I will plan this one again on a drier evening.

My pup managed to catch a mild case of Kennel Cough (bordetella) so we will be staying away. But as an FYI for all of you out there vet said there has been an big increase in outbreaks of Kennel Cough in Seattle area because of the dog show. Get a booster shot if your dog needs one, and/or keep an eye out for symptoms in your dog if you've been in high canine-traffic areas like parks, pet stores, classes and daycares.

It's like the generic people flu, some dogs will carry it without ever getting sick or showing symptoms. Take care of your dogs. :)

Hope to join in 2 weeks!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
