Green Lake - Pathway of Lights

Should we get a group together to do this?  Meet at 5pm for a walk around Green Lake.  Light up yourself and your dog. Green Lake Pathway of Lights is Dec. 8 this year

Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Green Lake Community Center Advisory Council continue a Seattle tradition with the 36th annual Pathway of Lights. This year’s event will take place from 5 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, rain or shine. Admission is free.

Join thousands of families, friends, and neighbors in this beloved Seattle tradition and travel the 2.8-mile path around the lake, taking in the warm glow of the luminaria. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lights and candles to add to the ambiance.

Local musicians will perform at four sites around the lake:

  • The Green Lake Community Center on the east side
  • The Green Lake Small Craft Center (the Aqua Theater) on the south side
  • The Bathhouse Theater (Seattle Public Theatre) on the north side
  • The Arch on the east of side of the community center/pool featuring Langston Hughes Performing  Arts Center artists

Warm drinks and treats will be available at those locations, as will donation bins for nonperishable food items for Northwest Harvest.

Volunteers are needed to help place and light the thousands of luminaria, and to clean up after the event. Individuals, businesses, community organizations and school and scout groups are welcome to participate. Setup takes place from 2:30 – 5 p.m., and the lighting of the candles takes place at 5 p.m. Cleanup is from 8 – 9 p.m.

Beautiful, enchanting evening. I hope everyone was able to enjoy themselves even though it was difficult to make this a true meet up event.

We have a large group signed up and I am sure these event gets pretty busy. A better meeting place might be by the soccer fields instead of the community center as this may give us more room to gather. I will be starting at 5 so if you are late enjoy the walk and maybe you will meet up with us at some point. We may start out as a group but with different walking speeds we will definitely spread out so please find somebody you are comfortable walking with and have a good time.
If anybody has attended this event in the past and has some insight please let us know.
Remember to bring a can or bag of pet food for the donation bins.

      Hi Kathy,

By soccer fields, do you mean the fields next to the pool and basketball hoops where lots of pp play soccer, or do you mean the actual soccer fields which are quite a bit off of the path and further south closer to the south-end tennis courts, near 50th?

The actual soccer fields. Big parking area and off the main path for a large group to gather

I have been to this event before. It is a lot of fun with the lights and a wonderful community event. It does get crowded, especially at 5pm. Using lights on your dogs is a good idea. Also, short leashes to avoid tripping people. See you there.

    Hi everyone,
It is kind of hidden in the middle of the description above, so I just thought I'd mention again that there are supposed to be donation bins for Northwest Harvest at the event. I asked if they would accept pet as well as human food and they indicated this is a big need at the food banks as well - so bring something for Fido and Fluffy as well!
