If you have already RSVP'd for Alyson's ....please do not change your rsvp to come to our place (that would not be cool).

We have no plans Saturday night and thought about going out...but no way are we going to be able to get a baby sitter for this weekend. So, we are bringing the fun to us. ;) So come on over and join us.

After your Thanksgiving feast is done and the tryptophan has worn off, you might be looking for something to do! Come on out for a game night! Always a lot of fun and many laughs, game night is a great way to meet new people and see current meetup friends. So, come on over and have a great time!

What to Bring:

BYOB
Snack, appetizer, or dessert to share. Perhaps some Thanksgiving leftovers??? (only if sanitary and well preserved of course!)

LIST WHAT food YOU WILL BE BRINGING IN YOUR RSVP PLEEEEEEEEASE. :)

Unless a microwave dinner is your idea of a Thanksgiving feast, you probably have had firsthand experience with the after-dinner fatigue that sets in after the meal. Why do you want a nap? To escape the dishes? Perhaps, but the meal itself plays a big part in the way you feel.

* L-Tryptophan and the Turkey

The turkey is often cited as the culprit in afterdinner lethargy, but the truth is that you could omit the bird altogether and still feel the effects of the feast. Turkey does contain L-tryptophan, an essential amino acid with a documented sleep inducing effect. L-tryptophan is used in the body to produce the B-vitamin, niacin. Tryptophan also can be metabolized into serotonin and melatonin, neurotransmitters that exert a calming effect and regulates sleep. However, L-tryptophan needs to be taken on an empty stomach and without any other amino acids or protein in order to make you drowsy. There's lots of protein in a serving of turkey and it's probably not the only food on the table.

It's worth noting that other foods contain as much or more tryptophan than turkey (0.333 g of tryptophan per 100 gram edible portion), including chicken (0.292 g of tryptophan per 100 gram edible portion), pork, and cheese. As with turkey, other amino acids are present in these foods besides tryptophan, so they don't make you sleepy.

* L-Tryptophan and Carbohydrates

L-tryptophan may be found in turkey and other dietary proteins, but it's actually a carbohydrate-rich (as opposed to protein-rich) meal that increases the level of this amino acid in the brain and leads to serotonin synthesis. Carbohydrates stimulate the pancreas to secrete insulin. When this occurs, some amino acids that compete with tryptophan leave the bloodstream and enter muscle cells. This causes an increase in the relative concentration of tryptophan in the bloodstream. Serotonin is synthesized and you feel that familiar sleepy feeling.

* Fats

Fats slow down the digestive system, giving Thanksgiving dinner plenty of time to take effect. Fats also take a lot of energy to digest, so the body will redirect blood to your digestive system to tackle the job. Since you have less bloodflow elsewhere, you will feel less energetic after eating a meal rich in fats.

* Alcohol

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. If alcoholic beverages are part of the holiday celebration, then they will add to the nap-factor.

* Overeating

It takes a great deal of energy to digest a large meal. When your stomach is full, blood is directed away from other organ systems, including your nervous system. The result? You will feel the need to snooze after any big meal, particularly if it is high in fats and carbohydrates.

* Relaxation

Although many people find the holidays stressful, the most relaxing part of the festivities is likely to be the meal. No matter what you may have been doing throughout the day, Thanksgiving dinner provides an opportunity to sit back and relax -- a feeling that can carry over after the meal.

So, why are you sleepy after a big turkey dinner? It's a combination of the type of food, amount of food, and celebratory atmosphere. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Everyone !

Thanksgiving at "My Place" -
Honestly, I enjoy cooking but I'd rather buy a ready to serve cooked up turkey from King Soopers. I've had them before and they are delicious. I suggest everyone bring a side dish to share, a bottle of wine and $10 to cover the Turkey and other stuffs. When you RSVP please put down your side dish, salad or desert.

Since this is a singles group - I'd like to hope for 4 men and 4 women for a nice group of 8 at my place. We hang out by my fireplace, play games, watch the Denver Broncos play The New York Giants at 6:20 pm, socialize and get to know some new friends at this time of Thanksgiving. If I don't get enough interest by Tuesday the 24th - then I'll make other plans too. I want a minimum of 6 for this to happen.

Regarding kids - I don't have the answer - let's see who wants to come and I can accommodate some kids if we need to. I'd rather say YES to kids than not at all. My honest 1st choice would be adults only - but I don't know the nature of this group. Please help in this decision - I'm open.

Yes, I'm asking for a solid commitment for this event and your $10 payment via Paypal will show me you're IN.

E-mail me or call me with any questions or concerns. I live around 76th & Wadsworth in North Arvada.

Please make a payment via paypal to: Scott.Johnson@Coloradotele.com. If you'd rather send a check- just let me know in the rsvp.

Thanks and Have a Blessed Thanksgiving where ever you are!

OTHER GROUPS MEETING US:
UFC GROUP
DENVER AND NORTH METRO COUPLES GROUP

It's literally the biggest heavyweight championship fight in history, when the seemingly unstoppable Brock Lesnar defends his title in the main event of UFC 106 against unbeaten knockout artist Shane Carwin, a fighter who has ended each of his 11 pro bouts in less than three minutes.

Brock dropped out quite a while ago, because of injury.........disregard the following which was previously posted.... Brock Lesnar has battled some of the best heavyweight fighters in the world. The Ultimate Fighting Championship® heavyweight title holder dominated seasoned veteran Heath Herring and put away former UFC® champions Randy Couture and Frank Mir. On Saturday, Nov. 21, Lesnar will face yet another stern test in undefeated 6-foot-3, 262-pound top contender Shane Carwin at UFC 106:

But that's not all, as "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy", former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz, makes his highly-anticipated return to the Octagon to face Forrest Griffin in their long-awaited rematch.

PLEASE NOTE: CB Potts charges a $5.00 cover charge for the fights and does NOT take reservations. This place fills up fast, so you will need to be there at 6:30pm sharp in order to have us sit together. Look for the meetup.com table top signs. If you can't make it there at 6:30, just get there as soon as you can and we will try our best to save you a spot...no guarantees though.

Folks;
The Karaoke group of Meetup.com, of which I am an assistant also, is meeting at Armidas (840 Lincoln - Denver) this next Tuesday. You don't have to be a singer to sit and have some fun or enjoy the food. The more the merrier. I year ago for Thanksgiving we had three groups and over 50 people total.

"Dave G, a member for years and a fellow organizer, is having a birthday. As we all want to wish him well for all his effort and contributions to the group, let's show up, buy him a drink, and sing together in his honor. We'll be meeting up at Armidas, an old favorite of ours. Carla and I will be there and we should be fairly easy to find. Armidas does serve Mexican food as well as drinks (their margaritas are quite tasty), so you won't need to plan on eating before coming."

Hope you can all make it!

This winter, we celebrate 60 years of filmmaking with the release of Warren Miller’s Dynasty. Fresh cinematography and immeasurable talent explodes from Dynasty, showcasing the experience, the influence, and the originality that has grown from the action sports filmmaking institution that is Warren Miller Entertainment.

From October through December 2009, Warren Miller’s Dynasty will crisscross the country on a nationwide film tour. Narrated by Jonny Moseley and presented in striking high-definition, Dynasty highlights winter’s most gripping explorations and ultimate challenges…the new, the old, and the unknown…the steep, the deep, and the unthinkable. All of the action in this anniversary addition is set to an unmatched, innovative soundtrack, including music from Incubus, Silversun Pickups, and Band of Horses.

Warren Miller’s Dynasty takes you on a breathtaking global tour of China, Alaska, Norway, Colorado, British Columbia, and more. Join legendary WME athlete Chris Anthony as he treks into China’s interior on a search for the birthplace of skiing; follow mountaineering marvel Chris Davenport to Norway’s highest peaks; reunite with the pride of the Midwestern ski community, Luke and Adam Schrab; and catch a rare glimpse at historic clips from Warren Miller Entertainment’s vault of vintage footage.

When asked about Dynasty, the film’s director and producer Max Bervy said, “Warren Miller's Dynasty reveals the past, present, and future of winter sports. It is a film that gathers the generations under one roof, from the Crist family patriarch to Daron Rahlves, and the explosion of young terrain-park talent they've inspired. It's like a family reunion, held in neck-deep pow, with mandatory air required for entry. It leaves no snowball unturned in celebrating everyone who has, is, and will forever be a part of Warren Miller's Dynasty.”

Warren Miller’s Dynasty will sweep the nation as a limited release, stopping in more than 240 U.S. cities, including major markets like Seattle, Chicago, and Los Angeles. With screenings often running for one night only, Warren Miller films attract a cult-like following and mark the official start of winter for sports enthusiasts everywhere. Warren Miller premiers are an experience, a party, and a phenomenon not to be missed. Come and celebrate with us…60 years of breaking trail! Check out warrenmiller.com for tour information, videos, photos, and more.
