Friday night Kayaking/Canoeing in Deep Cove

What: Friday Night Special - Kayaking/Canoeing in Deep Cove

We will start our gathering at 5:30pm at the kayak/Canoe shop, and by 6pm, everyone should be prepared to go on the water. They close at 8pm,and expect their boats back by 8pm.

Please remember that if you have RSVPed to join this group, you must stay with the group. If you are planning to kayak/canoe on your own, please do not RSVP to join a gorup. We will canoe/kayak together, and we will proceed with the pace of the slowest paddlers. This is a Friday night leisurely paddle with a group to enjoy the beauty of Deep Cove.

I will be holding a Meetup sign.

Everyone needs to make their own reservations:
Deep Cove Canoe &Kayak:[masked]

Friday Night Specials:

http://www.deepcovekayak.com/rental-and-lessons/weekly-events/cheap-date/

$29 single kayak + tax (2-hour rental)

$39 double kayak + tax (2-hour rental)

$29 Canoe (has two seats) + tax (2-hour rental)

I do not enjoy paddling in the rain, so this event is weather permitting.  They have a 24-hour cancellation policy. So, I will check the weather forecast on Wednesday, and if it was not promising for Friday, I will postpone the event to the following Friday.

Meeting Place: We will meet at the Kayak & Canoe Centre between 6-6:30pm, to take care of the waivers, etc.  Please remember to bring a photo ID such a drivers license, as they require it. We are getting into the boat at 6:30pm.

What to bring: An extra pair of shoes (old running shoes or water shoes), change of clothing, water, snacks, camera (preferably water-proof).

If you would like to share a canoe/kayak with someone, please indicate and make arrangements between yourself.

Reservations are recommended as they sell out on occasions. So, to avoid disappointments, please contact Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak Centre and make your own reservations ahead of time. Credit card deposits and photo ID required. It takes time to fill out the consent forms too. So, make sure that you are there on time to take care of the forms too.

Please remember that just because you have RSVPed on the Meeup website, the kayak centre does not save a kayak/canoe for you! You need to contact the kayak centre to make payments.

If you have any questions, contact the Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak

    Hi Renee,

Very sorry for the no-show with no change to the RSVP. I was downtown and got delayed - did not have access to a computer.

Hope you all had a great time!

Hello all. Please remember that if you have RSVPed to join this group, you must stay with the group. If you are planning to kayak/canoe on your own, please change your RSVP. We will canoe/kayak together, and we will proceed with the pace of the slowest paddlers. This is a Friday night leisurely paddle with a group to enjoy the beauty of Deep Cove. This is not a race, and if you choose to join the group, it is expected that you stay with the group. Looking forward to paddling with a nice and sociable group. And don't forget your camera! :)

I just called the Deep Cove kayak/canoe. They said we needed to bring the boats back at 8pm. So, we need to be at the shop at 5:30pm, to take care of the waivers, etc, to be ready to be on the water at 6pm.

If you would like to share a canoe/kayak with someone, one person pays to the shop, and the other person reimburses with cash.

So far, the weather forecast seems to be fine for Friday. But, please check this page, on Friday afternoon, just in case the weather gets really bad, I will postpone this to the following week.

Please remember that this paddling event is weather permitting. If it rains, the event will be postponed to the following Friday. Having said that, I will be at the Kayak/canoe Centre at 6pm regardless. If the weather was not good, I will go to Grey Rock (Deep Cove) for a hike. Feel free to join me either for paddling or to Grey Rock hike.

I'd be interested in sharing a double kayak if anyone is interested... I have some experience kayaking, but it's been a while.

    • Renee

Hi Angela: Patrice has provided her contact. You can share the kayak with her. :)

Thanks for letting us know, Renee!

Angela, my e-mail is [masked]. Phone[masked] - if you would like to discuss sharing a kayak. I've kayaked quite a few times, but also not for a while, and am not that great at it. It would be good to share the effort so we don't have to work so hard!

    June 6, 2013

  • Renee

Angela and Patrice: it seems that you are both looking for someone to share a double kayak. You can email each other to coordinate. Looking forward to our kayaking/canoeing. :)

Thanks Renee. I don't enjoy paddling in the rain either. Also, unless someone would like to share a double kayak, I will be opting out of this event next Friday.

  • Renee

The weather forecast is not good for tomorrow, so I am postponing the event to next Friday (June 14). Please plan accordingly.

  • Denise

Sorry, I have double booked myself - will look forward to next time.

the prices above are different to whats on the website, do you have a special rate?

    June 1, 2013

  • Renee

I enjoy both canoeing and kayaking. But, I feel more like canoeing this Friday. Anybody interested in sharing a canoe? I could be either in bow or stern. If no experience in canoeing, please choose a kayak, as it is easier to steer in a kayak than a canoe, for beginners. Kayak is also faster than a canoe.

  • Renee

Hi Farrbott: No, I do not have a special rate. *THEY* have a special rate for Friday nights. It is on their website. You need to check their Friday night specials.
