North Shore International Film Series - The World Before Her

Join us for the start of the 2013 North Shore International Film Series withe critically acclaimed movie The World Before Her.

The World Before Her is a provocative and insightful documentary of a country in transition. As massive change sweeps through India, control over women and their behaviour is at the epicentre of a violent clash between Western modernity and age-old patriarchal traditions.

Director Nisha Pauja gained extraordinary access to women and their families living in two very different worlds, the end result is a rivetingly powerful film - devastating, moving, and ultimately uplifting.

The World Before Her is the winner of the Best Documentary award at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival and named Best Canadian Feature Documentary at the 2012 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

The film was excellent, however, I never got to meetup with the group. It would have been fun to discuss the movie afterwards at a predetermined location. Just a thought...

Hello Aftaab, sorry you did not get a chance to meetup with us, I did wait until 6:45 in the designated spot but as the movie was filling up fast had to go in and claim my seat. It was an excellent movie. I never pre-set a meetup afterwards I check with the group if they want to grab a coffee afterwards or not. If anyone attending a movie wishes to organize that in advance they are more than welcome to. Lisa

Lisa, my mistake - I see that you had arranged to meet across from the concession stand. I'll know for next time. I'm looking forward to meeting you all at another event.

Oh I just realized that I RSVP'd to a film that was tonight, not next week. Will check on future films.
