Shoot the August Full Moon over San Francisco

Learn moon photography during the “Golden Hours.” Shoot the moon over the "City" with San Francisco Chronicle retired staff photographer Frederic Larson. Discover some of the tricks of the trade photographing the full moon as it rises during the magic moments of twilight. See how to plot landmarks, read a compass, and choose an angle as the moon rises; measure exposures then scan images; and finally lay out your art for publication. Explore principles of light mastered by professional photographers of National Geographic magazine.

What you will be covering is moon photography. The range of focal length recommended is long to medium telephoto lenses. A tripod is suggested as the class will be doing long explorers in low light situations. The class will incorporate expose times, f/stop settings and certain photographic techniques that are beneficial in nighttime photography. Main areas of emphasis will be capturing peak moment.

Fun! I'm really surprised by some of my shots. Not great, especially due to the wind and camera, but a some nice shots.

George - I received your message and just want to clear up that it is not true that I requested you remove your photograph from the Meetup site. Not my place to do that. It's a fine photograph. I've made photographs just like it. It can be a lot of fun to put huge moons into a scene. Just be honest about the manipulation and don't represent it as the scene you saw before you.

Some mid-level clouds poking inland to about mid-city. Continuing to move slowly eastward. Hmmm.

Sally, I'd love to do that if we go. The sky is grey and I wonder if we are still going.

Its looking good for Hawk Hill moonrise tonight (cross your fingers).
Bring tripod, charged batteries, warm clothing, long lenses, flashlight, enough card space, read you camera manual and your smile. Get there early enough to find parking and get settled before moonrise at 8:08pm.
    See you soon,
    Frederic Larson

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
