September Full Moon over the New Oakland Bay Bridge

Learn moon photography during the “Golden Hours.” Shoot the moon over the "City" with San Francisco Chronicle retired staff photographer Frederic Larson. Discover some of the tricks of the trade photographing the full moon as it rises during the magic moments of twilight. See how to plot landmarks, read a compass, and choose an angle as the moon rises; measure exposures then scan images; and finally lay out your art for publication. Explore principles of light mastered by professional photographers of National Geographic magazine.

What you will be covering is moon photography. The range of focal length recommended is long to medium telephoto lenses. A tripod is suggested as the class will be doing long explorers in low light situations. The class will incorporate expose times, f/stop settings and certain photographic techniques that are beneficial in nighttime photography. Main areas of emphasis will be capturing peak moment.

It was a great meeting. Frederic kept the meet up fun and friendly. He gave a lot of explanation and was very helpful through the meeting. I had to bike away quickly at the end to catch my train back.

Will try to make it - have an early dinner with family who's in town but will then come down. Looks like moonrise/sunset a little after 7.

    September 9, 2013

    • Frederic L.

Yea but don't you want to enjoy the build up to the moon rise by coming a little early?

      September 16, 2013

    • Steve D

Reworked the visit and will be there early! Looking at the map, is the east end of the bridge visible from our meeting point?

Moonrise is around 4:15 p.m. By the time it is dark, will the moon be very high in the sky (as opposed to providing some opportunity to photograph it a short distance above the ground?

    September 6, 2013

    • Shirley S.

Okay, I'm looking forward to it. Hope it is nice and clear on the 19th.

      September 12, 2013

      That I can't promise

Looking forward to this. I noticed that the marker on the map is west of the hut, not the location where we should be meeting.

I am pretty much a beginner. But can I join and attend the meetup? (I know the basics of photography but haven't taken a picture for quite sometime - so I am a bit anxious)

    Thank you,
