Full Moon Over San Francisco's Skyline

San Francisco July Full Moon

Learn moon photography at the Marina Greens San Francisco during the “Golden Hours” of light. Shoot the moon over San Francisco with San Francisco Chronicle retired staff photographer Frederic Larson. Discover the tricks of the trade photographing the full moon as it rises during the magic moments of twilight. See how to plot landmarks, read a compass, and choose an angle as the moon rises; measure exposures then scan images; and finally lay out your art for publication. Explore principles of light mastered by professional photographers of National Geographic magazine.

What you will be covering is moon photography. The range of focal length recommended is long to medium telephoto lenses. A tripod is suggested as the class will be doing long explorers in low light situations. The class will incorporate expose times, f/stop settings and certain photographic techniques that are beneficial in nighttime photography. Main areas of emphasis will be capturing peak moment.

Had a great time meeting everyone even though the weather was less than ideal.

San Francisco weather in July was not moon friendly, but the shooters where that braved the elements!

Fred, wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the group. You made it real if you know what I mean. Larry and I are still waiting for the price we won for driving the furthest distance. Looking forward to the next meet-up. c u then

Yes, glad the group is together again, and that you are back from an extended stay "on the beach", Frederick.

Not exactly a moon shoot but it was fun seeing everyone with a camera around there neck smiling.

Even though the clouds put a damper on the moon shot, it was great to have the group up and running again. From looking at the posted photos, people were still able to salvage the night.

Looks like the city getting overcast so I think I will do the Marin headlands instead and stay on the Marin side of the bridge see you next time.

I hope to see you all next full moon. Between the traffic projected by Google maps into the city and the prospect of cloudy skies, I'll opt for a glass of wine instead and think good thoughts for all of you who do venture out tonight.

Is there any "Friends" that live in the city that can tip us off on the weather near show time?

Hi Fred, welcome back...I returned back home from Concord/Walnut Creek under full sunshine at 70s this morning on watering plants & mowing grass for vacationing family's residence. It's cloudy in SF/Oakland upon driving Hwy 24 toward Bay Bridge toll plaza.

Will it be easy enough to park at this location? Or would taking public transportation be a better option?
    Thank you!
