Watch the Cleveland Air Show

This is an invitation to join the Cleveland Sea Kayakers meet up group. The below is copied from their site.

There is nothing quite as thrilling as being in the eastern Cuyahoga River breakwall crotch watching the United States Navy Blue Angels screaming overhead as they follow the breakwall at 100 feet. Bring ear plugs. We did this in 2012 but missed this year as the Air Show was cancelled due to the sequester. Posting the Saturday date and a 10:00 time now but date and time are subject to change. Could be Sunday and we will post again as we approach. Could also do Saturday and Sunday. Will also plan a picnic gathering.

Had a great time on Saturday! I ended up paddling along the outside of the breakwall, then met some friends for a drink or two on their boar and a tow into the marina. Looking forward to the next weekend meet-up

Fun Outing. Water rougher than we would like. The Blue Angels are amazing as always. Safe paddling!

Setting up to the tight if small pavilion by marina for boat drop off

Asking Amanda to advise where she will be for the boat drop. Thinking it will be close to park entrance nearer to the parking lot than the beach. Our Group requires PFDs be worn. Ear plugs, the kind you insert into your ears or/and the muff type are needed out at the East Lighthouse as the Blue Angels roar overhead and you will want to use your hands for paddling or rafting-up, rather than covering your ears. Disappointed that the Coast Guard is not extending the Cuyahoga River no-wake zone out to the break wall. They will have a strong presence in the entire area, needless to say. I will be on Marine Radio Channel 16 for hailing and Channel 69 for conversation. Enjoy the day!

Hi All! I just talked to Virginia from NEOK re: the event tomorrow. As previously mentioned, I am going to set up a "boat sitting" area so people can leave their boats and gear w/ me while they are getting cars parked. Virginia is going to grab a picnic table- hopefully near shore by the volleyball courts. We are going to set up a mini- hospitality area. Organizing a potluck would be too confusing but we will have some drinks/coolers of ice, etc. You can drop off your lunch there before you paddle if you want. Donations of drinks and non-perishable food items (chips, salsa etc) accepted. If you want to take a paddling break, you can come hang out by our table and meet/socialize with other paddlers. We're asking inexperienced paddlers to stay within break wall. There is a good area to paddle just in front of where we are setting up that is fairly protected and is still a great vantage point. My cell is[masked]- call if you need help or directions!!!

Hi! I'm the Assistant Organizer for Cleveland Sea Kayakers! There has been some understandable confusion regarding tomorrow's paddle. It is NOT going to be a regular Meet Up where everyone launches and paddles together. Because of the complexity of parking/shuttles, length of Air Show, etc, people are going to arrive and launch on their own time. There is no way we can coordinate 70+ paddlers with the anticipated Labor Day crowds. If there is a certain portion of the Air Show that interests you, plan your paddle accordingly. (For schedule, go to www.clevelandairshow.com ). The designated raft up area is by the east lighthouse. Since I know most people will not be comfortable dropping off their boats and gear, driving to parking lot and taking a shuttle back, and since I'm working through a significant thumb injury and shouldn't paddle, I am offering to be a boat sitter. I will be at Wendy Park from 11:30 until 2pm. I will watch your boat and gear while you arrange parking.

Please look at the Cleveland Sea Kayaker Meet-up site for updates. There are four launch sites. The launch time is open. On-water rendezvous is 4:00 at the East Lighthouse. Location shown on our website. Click on satellite view on Wendy Park location. It is where the break wall opens up for the Cuyahoga River.
