Homebrew Happy Hour at the San Diego History Center

The event will occur at the SDHC in Balboa Park on Friday, August 30, from 5:30 to 7:30.  This is not a homebrewers party, this is an event aimed at the public.  The intent is to continue to educate people who have relatively little knowledge about craft beer and the role homebrewing has played and continues to play in the craft brewing community.

The clubs that choose to participate in the event will be pouring homebrewed beverages to the attendees, and discussing how they were made, as well as their involvement in the local homebrewing community.  This is an opportunity to present homebrewing to ordinary people in the best possible light.

Participating clubs should plan to make and serve 5-10 different beverages, mostly beer, but cider and mead could also be included.  Serving will be via club-supplied jockey boxes, into SDHC-supplied sample glasses, that have the SDHC Bottled & Kegged logo.

Again, the attendees will be normal people, so attempts to outdo each other with massive IBU’s should be reserved for other opportunities.  The goal would be to present a wide range of approachable styles that would pique the interest of people who are not yet homebrewers or craft beer aficionados.   Demonstrate just how good homebrewed beers can be in a casual environment.

We do not yet know how many beers we can serve. The club will be working have base grains for up to 10 gal batches. We are going to work on sourcing yeast from White Labs as well as some hops. So you would be responsible for specialty grains only. This is to be a showcase for homebrew so bring your best and brightest (propbably means I should work on some better and clearer beer). We have some time before this event happens, so we won't need to brew until late July.
