    I used point and shoot camera for a long time; very new to using my digital NikonD7000. For many years prior to digital cameras, I used the manual Nikon F3T. I travel a lot, and I am not happy with the pictures I took. I took better pictures with the manual Nikon I used in the past. Hope to learn more from others.

    I am sorry that I couldn't coordinate this meeting but, I am very busy with Maltese Rescue California, dog rescue. We usually have 5-10 rescue dogs living with us and we go on rescue events regularly as well as having to bring the dogs to the vet regularly.

    I just joined last night and haven't been to a meeting yet but was interested in this venue.

    I contacted the Dorcus E. Utter Butterfly Pavilion and here some information.

    Address:12122 Cuyamaca College Drive West, El Cajon, 92019 $5.00 entrance fee.

    Opens: April 5th and hours are 9:00 am - 4:00pm

    Photo Class: Saturday May 17th from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm for $10.00 non-members

    The coordinator believes that the Pavilion will be busy through April and suggests a visit in mid-late May. During the week is less busy. If we arrive during busy times there is a 15 minute time period for viewing and then reentering the line for re-admittance.

    If there are enough of us they might consider opening the pavilion after hours starting at 4:00pm or from 8:00am -9:00 am for us also.

    Anyone interested and what days or times are best for you? I am thinking the week of May 17-23 but not sure day or time most convenient for group. How do you "survey" this?

    What does it take to "host" an event. I just joined yesterday but am interested in seeing this exhibit and taking pictures.

      It doesn't take very much work to host. I can designate you (or whomever) as the host, and you'd have the ability to add or change details on this event page. Your job as host is just to arrange a time and add a location to meet at, and then of course be there to say hi before everyone goes inside. Extremely easy and you can do it any way you see fit. It's always a good idea to do a little homework so that you know the venue will be open and the subject matter (Monarchs in this case) will be available. Simple enough?

    This suggested event needs a date and time. It was posted nearly three years ago. If no one steps forward to host it, I will be removing it from the agenda. Anyone interested in putting it together?

      Richard Crowe's link said the event's facility is moving to El Cajon (www.monarchprogram.org/­the-monarch-program-faci­lity) where they are not yet open. That's a bit too far for me, but perhaps someone further south can organize this. May is still the best month to photograph them. Incidentally, they do overwinter in my town (San Clemente) and I'd be happy to organize a visit to their hangout, but taking pictures of them in Nov/Dec would be a challenge. They look a bit like leaves hanging far above the ground. Perhaps a 200 mm or 300 mm lens would get in close enough?
