Today, photography is not only about focusing on your subject, the background, lighting, and more, but the camera as well. Understanding the settings on your camera is key to maximizing its performance and the quality of your photos. Here are some basic photography tips to help you sharpen your skill.

1. Start With The Right Shutter Speed
Understand that blurred motion and incorrect shutter speed go hand in hand. Two points must be considered: shutter speed to focal length and crop sensor to magnification effects. Example: For best results at 30mm, set the shutter speed to 1/30 of a second. For a crop sensor, the better adjustment is 1/45 of a second.

2. Use a Tripod
Sometimes we quiver. It can be pressure related, or merely a physical result to age or other conditions. When adjusting the shutter speed is insufficient, use a tripod to steady the camera and reduce blur.

3. Find The Right Focal Point
Kill the auto focus. Pictures reflect your point of view. Focus on the point that draws your natural eye and you will get a better photo.

4. Base ISO
Stabilization enables you to shoot at slower shutter speeds thus reducing blur and narrower apertures. For crisp photo with reduced noise background, set the ISO somewhere between 100-200.

5. Use a Good Lens
A bad lens produces a poor photo. To cover the greatest range of focal lengths, purchase a cost efficient prime lens in the range of 35 to 50mm at 1.8. It is a quick and effective solution to problems involving image quality.

6. Find your Lens’ Sweet Spot
The applied aperture directly affects field depth and image blurs. For the best chances of capturing a crisp image, try to hold the aperture at around f/8. This helps ensure a clear focus.

7. A Clean Lens
This is a no-brainer. Apply the best of photography techniques. Utilize the greatest photography equipment on the market. But piddle around with poor camera maintenance and your photos will lack quality. Keep the lens clean. Utilize a lens cover. Practice daily maintenance.

8. Utilize Lighting Conditions
Light established mood. There may be times when you desire a darkened image. But usually, better lighting enables better photos. Direct flash is sometimes necessary. An off camera flash, bounced off a ceiling is good. Daylight is best.

9. Stabilize the Image
Some modern photography equipment incorporates a stabilization unit. This enables sharper pictures while working from narrower apertures and/or slower shutter speeds. If your system utilizes stabilization technology, and you are not shooting from a tripod, turn it on. The photos will reveal the power of the technology.

10. RAW Mode
JPG and Bitmapped images sacrifice details during computer conversions. RAW mode eliminates this loss. Advanced sharpness controls are also among the many advantages of RAW mode. Capture a cleaner shot that is also more computer-friendly to the original picture.
