Field Trip: Dallas Arboretum (CHIHULY Nights)

*** COME HAVE FUN PHOTOGRAPHING THIS SPECIAL GLASS SCULPTURE EXHIBIT AT NIGHT. ***

Greetings Fellow Photographers,

Our next Field Trip adventure we will be at the Dallas Arboretum. However, this will NOT be a daytime event. The Dallas Arboretum is currently hosting a very special Glass Sculpture exhibit featuring the renown Glass Blowing Sculpting Artist, Dale Chihuly. The park will be open at nighttime to feature hundreds of his exhibits. Most Sculptures will be lit up at night. Thus, this will be a nighttime Field Trip.

Dallas Arboretum - Chihuly Nights Exhibit <- this is a link to the Arboretum's web site.

The Arboretum will offer garden hours from 6 – 9 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings to present CHIHULY Nights, a magical, illuminated opportunity to view the sculptures with special effects lighting and various dining opportunities. Evening admission prices are as follows:

Members
Adult $12
Senior $10
Child $9
No Parking Fee

Non-Member
Adult $20
Senior $15
Child $10
No Parking Fee

Tickets must be purchased in advance and there is no additional charge for parking.

We will plan on meeting at a certain location within the park area. You WILL want to consider bringing a tripod to this event. Hope to see you there.

Unfortunately, traffic was bad and I was 20 minutes late so, although I asked a number of photographers if they were with our group, I never met any of our Club members.

I'm signed up. Where are we meeting at the Arboretum?

Even thought I checked as soon as the invite was posted and saw there were tickets still available I didn't buy them. I attempt to purchase the tickets for Chihuly Nights 36 after the post and could not. However, I also knew that Chihuly would be awesome to photgraph at night so I bought tickets for the 1st available night, which just so happens to be on Monday, 11/19. Although I won't have the privilege of Rueben and the other NTPC club members expertise as guidance, I know I won't be disappointed for this opportunity, even if it is on my own. Besides, if it hadn't been for the invite, I probably wouldn't have know the Chihuly dates had been extended. Thanks for the invite. I now know not to dawdle next time.

    Hi Clay,

I understand your frustration, but to be fair to the organizer, tickets to the event were available when the invitation was posted. I got my ticket after seeing the invitation. It is just that the Chihuly exhibit is very popular and the Arboretum restricts attendance due to parking limitations.

Does anyone have an extra ticket for the night? I am a member to the arboretum, but they apparently are sold out.

This date has been sold out for a while, why would you post an invitation to an event that was sold out. I guess I will not be attending either.

Do we just purchase our tickets individually and meet at the designated place?

What focal length lenses are recommended for this event? Any other tips to help us prepare? Thanks much.

I apologize, only Nov. 26, 27 & 28 available. Nov. 19 limited availability. Maybe next time.

Nov 28, 27, 28 still available as well as many nights in Dec. Hope this helps. Even if not with NTPC, it is worth seeing. And you can take all the pics you wish on those dates too. Just not with Rueben's help. :(

I just went on-line and there are no available spots for Nov. 12th. Therefore, I guess I will not be able to join as originally planned. Nov. 15th appears to be the only date available.

I went this past week at night, it's stunning all lit up.

I saw the Chihulys several days ago during the day. I only had my point & shoot, but still got spectacular pics. I wished I could see it at night, but night-time tickets were sold out. I hope to be able to take advantage of this awesome opportunity, but not sure yet whether I can attend. Rueben, thanks for making this chance available to us.
