HELLO, to everybody!
First, I would personally like to thank everybody who has joined this Meetup Group without even holding it's first meeting, yet. I am amazed on how many people are interested in this group. Thanks again!
I would like to give you all a brief background about myself and then answer a few questions.
My name is Reuben G. Mendiola, (that's pronounced "Mindy-O-la"). My family and I now live in McKinney, Texas. I have been the Vice-President/Activities Chairman for the Plano Photography Club for 2 years where I am responsible for planning, organizing, and hosting the Club's activities. Previously, we lived in Houston where I was involved with the Houston Photochrome Club for several years doing the same task. I have over 20 years of photographic experience as a serious amateur and now almost 4 years as a semi-professional photographer. Mostly, I shoot Weddings & Portraits. I say "semi" because this is not my full time career, yet. I am an Architect by day. I love to teach and help people learn about Photography and Digital Imaging. Thus, this is why I wanted to create this Club.
Thank you to everyone who has called and emailed me asking various questions regarding the Club and Photography. I thought that this group would like to read some of these questions. Some of these questions are paraphrased, but their meanings should be clearly stated.
Q - "Why is the first meeting scheduled in January?"
A - I want the first meeting to coincide with the beginning of the new year with the beginning of new goals. This will also place the fiscal year for the club on a January to December calendar. Also, I will be obtaining a laptop in December and it will be definitely used as part of our meetings.
Q - "I am a beginner photographer, will I fit into this Club?"
A - ABSOLUTELY! I have received several phone calls regarding this type of question. It seems that most of the people who have joined have a beginner to advance experience level. We will cater most of our meetings, workshops, and photo shoots to the beginner-advance levels.
Q - "I do not have a digital camera, will there still be an interest for me to join?"
A - YES! We will cover mostly basic Photography principles that can be used in both the Film and Digital formats. However, we will also cover the arena of Digital Imaging, which means handling digital files that were either scanned from the negatives or captured within the camera.
Q - "Where will the meetings be held at?"
A - This is the BIG question! I am currently still working on a PERMANENT location to hold a monthly meeting. We are anticipating to find a location in the Frisco area. This would be a ideal geographic mid-point for those in Denton and McKinney, as well as those in the Plano and North of McKinney, especially Sherman. I have originally planned on the Frisco Library to host the meetings. They were real excited to provide their totally equipped meeting room for the Club. However, Frisco City Hall does not allow for organizations to hold re-occurring meetings at THEIR facilities. I do not want to take the chance on scheduling a meeting and having City Hall take over the room at their own discretion. I am currently looking into an arrangement with Collin County Community College and will keep everybody posted with the details as they progress.
I will post more questions as they come in. Please feel free to contact me if you should have any questions or comments.
