NOTE: THIS IS A CROC EVENT POSTED ON OUR SITE. CROC WILL BE RUNNING THIS EVENT BUT YOU WILL LIKELY SEE ME THERE. THESE EVENTS ARE QUITE FUN.
Join CROC for a free in-town urban orienteering event, with a brand-new map on some great terrain. Council Crest is known as the "summit" of Portland, capped by a city park, with winding narrow residential streets, alleys, and staircases radiating down and out.
Unlike traditional O-courses where you find orange and white flags set the day of the event, this course uses permanent objects such as mailboxes, house numbers, and signs. At each point marked on your map (aka control point) you'll have a related multiple choice question, such as: "What is the animal painted on the side of the garage? a) elephant b) walrus c) panda". Answer the question, and move on to the next control. (Oh, we should mention that the map does not have street names, so that adds a bit more challenge. =^)
The map scale is 1:7500, and the CROC orienteering gnomes have located 50 control points. The terrain is hilly!
(This format is just like our Multnomah village urban orienteering course. See more details on the Multnomah village course here.
Note that if you miss this event, the map and questions will be posted as a permanent course under the "Getting Better" link on our website, so you're welcome to go try the course any time you like on your own time.
If you plan to attend, please e-mail the meet director and let him know so we know how many maps to print.
You are welcome to try the course with a friend or two.
Start anytime between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Unlike other Score-O events we host, you may start any time you like in this two hour window. Note that our normal start times are between 11 AM and 1 PM, so don't oversleep!
