Geocaching for Newbies

It's short notice, but several people have said they'd like to learn about geocaching, and my calendar is filling up.  The advantage of starting this weekend is that I can tell you about upcoming hikes offered by other cachers, starting next weekend!

Let's take advantage of the free wi-fi at Starbucks.  Bring a laptop or tablet and your GPSr.  We'll learn to navigate the website at www.geocaching.com, learn about the different types of caches, get you signed up with a free account if you haven't registered, (hopefully) get cache coordinates loaded onto your GPSr, then go out on the North Creek Trail and find a few caches.

I will try to do this again late in March, but I can't make any promises yet.  Let me know if you live in North King/South Snohomish County and might like to go out with me some day when I do maintenance on caches I own in the Monroe/Sultan/ Startup area.

I am in Poulsbo wa. We have located a few geocaches with the kids. I would like to learn a bit more about creating our own and how to make it public. We have a GPS I just have not taken the time to get to know it. I have a gs troop of 10 year olds. We have a simple geocaching badge I would love to do with them. I just do not feel I have enough knowledge to help them with the badge yet!

Kelly - Aside from attending one of these meetup.com events, I would recommend also checking on Geocaching.com for upcoming geocaching events in your area. It's a great way to get to know others and learn more about geocaching from your local experts.

Oops - hit enter before I was done. The best tip I can give for hiding a geocache is to find several geocaches before you hide one. The more you've found, the better you'll be about picking out the best area to place a quality cache. As for the geocaching.com events, here's a link to where you can find events in Washington to attend: http://www.geocaching...

I need to ride share with someone from North King County. Live in Kenmore, could meet in Bothell, Lk. Forest Pk, Lake City, etc.

This location is a bit of a drive for me so if I don't show don't be surprised. What sort of gear do I need to bring?
