Announcing a new Meetup for Eastside Hikers Meetup Group!

What: Wednesday Afternoon Hike - Mt Si (Old Big Si Trail)

When: Wednesday, May 12,[masked]:15 PM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Hi All,
Lets meet up at Eastgate Park and Ride at 3:15 on the west side of the parking lot as usual. We will be trying a different route up Mt Si this time; I think I will be taking the main trail back down though. Please bring headlamps in case we don't make it back before dark. I don't remember doing the old Si trail but have heard alot of good things about it so lets give it a try. Please read the details below to see if this trip is for you. If you are running late please call my cell .. [masked]; I will only wait around for a few minutes if not.

Details:
7.0 mile round trip (Old Big Si Trail 2.4 mi via Little Si Trail 0.5 mi and Boulder Garden Loop Trail 0.6 mi)
Map offline: Green Trails Maps? No 206S
Map online: TerraServer USA
Trailhead coordinate: Lat:[masked], Long: [masked]; Alt: 500 ft.
Elevation gain: 3,667 ft.
Max elevation: Lat:[masked], Long: [masked]; Alt: 4,167 ft.
Hike time: up ↑ 3:00; break ↔ 0:05; down ↓ 1:40; Total ⇅ 4:45
Effort: Hard

Trail Data:
Trail steeper and a bit rougher than new Si trail, but not a problem. This trail is less crowded and on a normal day might see one or two people climbing. The view going up is really insignificant until you get to the top. Start off from the Little Si parking lot and climb up to the first main junction away from the Little Si trail on your right. Short after you fork off on the Old Si trail from Boulder Garden Loop turn left here for Big Si. After heading up the old trail you meet up maybe 1/4 mile from the basin with the new trail. Soon you hit the rocks and resume to the basin. You can take the boulder garden loop on the way down to add variety or take the main trail down.

Sorry for the poor trail description- I had to fish around for details and pretty much pieced this one together.

----
I was unable to find any recent trip reports on the old trail but expect so at the top for Mt Si.
