Announcing a new Meetup for Eastside Hikers Meetup Group!

What: Spray Park - Mt Rainier

When: Thursday, August 5,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Renton Park & Ride Lot
Shattuck Ave S
Renton, WA 98057
Call Metro Transit/King County

Let's take Thursday off and hike up to Spray Park in the NW corner of Mt Rainier National Park. The snow is gone, the flowers are out, and the crowds are at work.

We start from beautiful Mowich Lake, hike in cool forest to Spray Falls, and bust out of the trees into the spectacular meadows. The snowy north face of Mt. Rainier will blind you unless you bring sunglasses. Some nice tarns, more flowers, and a few snow patches near the end.

Based on my assessment of the group's capabilities (and the weather) I may elect to have us return via the shorter unmaintained path over Knapsack Pass making a complete loop. This route back is very scenic, but will involve a quarter mile of snow and rock-hopping. I've done it with the Midweek Mountaineers several times and they are mostly in their 70's. It's easy!

Stats: 7-8 miles RT with 1,500-2,000' elevation gain (depends on return route). Social pace with plenty of time for photos and a long lunch.

Bring plenty of water, good boots, a trekking pole or two, and your 10 Essentials. No dogs and no babies.

Meet 8am at the Renton Park & Ride on I-405, Exit 2. Take the Rainier Ave ramp north into Renton. At the first light turn right onto Grady Way. Turn left onto Shattuck Ave and then left into the lot.
