Announcing a new Meetup for Eastside Hikers Meetup Group!

What: Summerland & Panhandle Gap (Mt Rainier)

When: Thursday, August 19,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Renton Park & Ride Lot
Shattuck Ave S
Renton, WA 98057
Call Metro Transit/King County

Got Thursday off? If so, lets hike up to Summerland and Panhandle Gap at Mt Rainier National Park. This section of the Wonderland Trail is an extra special hike on a weekday without the crowds.

The flowers should be out at Summerland and most of the snow should be gone up to Panhandle Gap. If we can get over the pass there are some of the best fields of Lupine in the park just a short hike off-trail to the east, lots of goats too!

Stats: 14 miles RT with 3,000' of elevation gain. I've done this trail many times. It always seem shorter to me, but with the long drive it will take the entire day. The trail is wide and well graded, never really steep. Some well trodden snow steps right at the pass may make you wish you had a trekking pole or two. No dogs or babies.

Meet 7am at the Renton Park & Ride at Exit 2 on I-405. Take the ramp into Renton on Rainier Ave. Turn right at the first light onto Grady Way. Turn left onto Shattuck Ave and then left again into the P&R.

Call me at[masked] if you have questions.
