October Fiction: Watergate, by Thomas Mallon

Join us for our October meeting! We'll be reading Watergate, Thomas Mallon's novel based on the events of this odd chapter in the American presidency.

From the March 2, 2012 review in the New York Times:

What Mallon captures particularly well is the fundamental weirdness and mystery at the center of the scandal. ... It appears that Mallon’s primary goal, one he achieves with great finesse, is to make the portrayals of his characters as believable as possible. Like the rest of us, they aren’t simply moral or immoral but are both clever and defensive, selfish and self-pitying, sweet and loyal, generous and venal.

The book is in paperback and available widely. If you want to support a local bookstore, here's a link to Politics and Prose: http://www.politics-prose.com/book/9780307474650

Hope to see you there!

I'm afraid I can't make most meetings on Tuesday night if that is a scheduled day for this group. I'll miss the group because the books and discussion are interesting

Hi Faith, future meetings won't necessarily be on Tuesdays. This month Wednesdays were booked for me, but I am open to both Wednesdays and Thursdays for future fiction meetings.

Hi All, Do we have a location yet? Just finished this book, lived through the era, and am anxious to talk about this!

Hi... I've been out of town because of the shutdown and am in the car on the way back to DC. As soon as I'm near my computer I'll confirm a location. But the meet up is definitely on!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
