Burton Mack, Who Wrote the New Testament: The Making of the Christian Myth
This question I find impossible to answer in any meaningful way because there a so many dimensions on which to judge a writer and genres in which to work that to name just one would be highly misleading. I suppose too that I judge works not authors.
William Blackstone, Commentaries on the Laws of England; The New Oxford Annotated Bible; Cowgill, the Art of Plotting
Neuroscience, history, historical fiction, anything very well-written or with a fresh, distinctive style.
