My Father's Paradise by Ariel Sabar, and before that I read The Coffee Trader by David Liss
This is a difficult question to answer. I usually have favorite books rather than favorite authors. I often find that if I love one book by an author I don't always love that author's other works. I have liked more than one of the books by Tracy Chevalier, Jennifer Weiner, and the author of The Kite Runner ( can't think of his name.
Unorthodox by Deborah Feldman (I haven't read it yet and would like to!); Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay (I really liked this book); and The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
I enjoy historical fiction the most. I also enjoy reading books about current day cultures that are very different from ours, such as The Kite Runner. I read a lot of books with Judaic content or fiction related to the Holocaust.
