Enjoy reading, want to share your thoughts about books or just listen to other peoples opinions then why not join us. Book club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at Lee Rosy’s café. The books for the next few months are:-
July 2013 – The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Aug. 2013 – The Buddha in the Attic, Julie Otsuka.
Depending on how much discussion The Great Gatsby generates (I am hoping a lot) it would be good to decide what books we are going to read for the next six months. At a recent book group someone suggested everyone should bring two books that they think should be read by other people. We can then peruse the books and come to a mutual agreement (or vote if necessary) on what books should be read. So, if possible please bring two reasonably lengthed books (that are in print) or a synopsis. It can be from any genre or century. Enjoy raiding your bookshelves!
The Great Gatsby – F.Scott Fitzgerald
Generally considered to be F. Scott Fitzgerald's finest novel, The Great Gatsby is a consummate summary of the "roaring twenties", and a devastating expose of the ‘Jazz Age’.
Through the narration of Nick Carraway, the reader is taken into the superficially glittering world of the mansions which lined the Long Island shore in the 1920s, to encounter Nick's cousin Daisy, her brash but wealthy husband Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby and the mystery that surrounds him.
