Book Club

Enjoy reading, want to share your thoughts about books or just listen to other peoples opinions then why not join us.  Book club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at Lee Rosy’s café.  The books for the next few months are:-

Nov. 2013 – Persuasion, Jane Austen.

Dec. 2013 – The Woman in Black, Susan Hill.

Jan. 2014 – The Electric Michaelangio, Sarah Hall.

Feb. 2014 – Pigeon English, Steven Kelman

Books to read are chosen by the group roughly every six months.  We try to choose books from various genres and times.  Have a book you think should be shared then come along and put it in the mix.

November 2013 – Persuasion, Jane Austen

What does persuasion mean - a firm belief, or the action of persuading someone to think something else? Anne Elliot is one of Austen's quietest heroines, but also one of the strongest and the most open to change. She lives at the time of the Napoleonic wars, a time of accident, adventure, the making of new fortunes and alliances.

A woman of no importance, she manoeuvres in her restricted circumstances as her long-time love Captain Wentworth did in the wars. Even though she is nearly thirty, well past the sell-by bloom of youth, Austen makes her win out for herself and for others like herself, in a regenerated society.

Having only just joined I have not yet read the Jane Austen book, but would love to hear more about it and get a feel for the monthly meetup before cracking on with December's book!

Where do people park when they meet in town for these events? I had to pay £10.50 the last time I parked in the city centre for three hours in a car park.

Hi, people do a variety things. I think some people use meters which are £1 flat fee after 6pm. Some people use train or bus. Personally i find the easiest is to use one of the park and rides on the tram route. Hope that helps.
