The Roundhouse was built in 2006 as a research project looking at construction methods using the same tools, timber and building materials that were originally used over 2,500 years ago. Once completed it became apparent that the house had a second function as an educational resource complementing traditional classroom teaching methods. The inside is set out to illustrate how an extended family of between 12 to 20 people would have lived and worked together.

ok, for those using public transport, the Calverton connection runs a  regular service on Sundays.

Thank you Andy for an amazing couple of hours at the Roundhouse, it was fascinating to hear Graham's knowledge on the subject. I'd never heard of it before - and nor had many of the locals I asked for directions!
This was only my second meet-up, and I look forward to next time.

If you missed this one then you missed a good one. I think it's pretty safe to say that this is the best and most likely authentic reproduction of a roundhouse anywhere in the world. Bearing in mind that nothing remains of the original structures other than a ring of holes in the ground, it is up to the builder to guess what reconstruction methods were used. I reckon this guy has pretty much nailed it. When you stood behind it, away from the sights of modernity, you could easily transport yourself back two and a half thousand years, and that felt good.
BTW, Nice to meet you Carolyn, behind the roundhouse (not the bike shed I hasten to add).

Hi Lee- I did enjoy our conversation round the back of the roundhouse (not sure that quite makes sense because of its shape but you know what I mean)... Agree it was a really good afternoon out!!

Thoroughly enjoyable and what I really liked was the time the owner took to answer questions and talk about his Iron Age Roundhouse project and everything to do with living in a roundhouse etc

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
