Hemlock Stone Walk

This will be a short walk (3 miles or so) around Bramcote and Stapleford Hills. The walk is quite steep in places, and often very muddy. Within Stapleford Hills there is Hemlock stone which is estimated to be over 200million years old (http://www.stapleford-notts.co.uk/hemlockstone.htm) and was used by the Celts/Druids as a place of worship.

We'll start from the car park at Bramcote Hills (where Coventry Lane and Ilkeston Road meet) at 11am. It should take about an hour or two to get round the entire route. You’ll need to bring waterproofs on this walk (in case of the inevitable!) and something to drink along the way.

To get to Bramcote Hills park you can catch the 20 and the 111 buses, both of which stop just around the corner from the park on Ewe Lamb Lane.

Hope to see you there!!

I'm afraid I can't come on the walk now which is a shame because I live very close to the start point. I hope you all enjoy it.

Can we take Archie along in his baby rucksack? He is 15month old

No problem at all. Stapleford hill is very steep in places though, and any extra weight may make it a somewhat taxing climb!!

We'll be a maybe. Depending how he is that morning.

Random fact about Stapleford Hill: the hill is 331ft high - that's an incredible 1% of the height of Everest!

Counting down as well as up is definately cheating as people have to climb back down Everest; at least the lucky ones! Besides the local council would certainly object to us setting up a base camp.

Base camp! now there's an idea...

I'm unlikely to make this now. I've got stacks of uni work to do, which I might not get done before Sunday.

Hi. I'll be arriving by bus. Is the no. 20 an NCT or Trent bus? Just looking into the logisitics of it all.
    Cheers.

Sorry I can't go on this walk anymore as I am off to the Scottish highlands that week. Just realised it coincided. Have fun without me everyone :)

I work near Bramcote Hills so know the area quite well. I hope to join the walk and with a bit of luck it will be a nice day!
