Wollaton Hall Picnic and Rounders

What better way to spend a summers day than with a picnic and Pimms followed by a gentle ( or perhaps not so gentle ) game of rounders.

This is a regular event and last year attracted a good crowd. Not much else to say as it is pretty much covered in the title. I will bring a rounders set and some cheap Aldi own brand Pimms rip off drink. You need to bring food and drink to share. If anybody has a suitable blanket or picnic set then feel free to bring those also.

We got around 30 people last year so it's an ideal event for new people. Just look out for the rounders set up and a big mob.

The Hall has a big car park and there is lots of public transport to and from the city centre. I expect to be there until 5pm at least.

Those going back toward town might want to join me for an evening drink somewhere.

Phew back in the UK. Tomorrow is a rather warm 24 degrees, cloudy but no rain expected. Should be good weather for a hit around. Anybody under any doubts regarding plans should read the other comments below which seem to cover everything.

The rules are pretty simple (so just watch how I get them wrong :-)). Hit the ball, run around the outside of some posts, hope nobody get the ball back to a post before you get there. Everything else is subtlety. :-)

I'll be there bout 2pm! Hopefully won't miss any of the lovely food! :-)

    July 11, 2014

Its well known and there are a lot of buses. Its a big place so head for the lawn outside the front off the hall building.

      1 · July 12, 2014

    • James

Hi Franziska. There are numerous buses that stop near the park. The 36, Y36, i4 and Indigo buses all have stops within walking distance of the park entrance.

Don't worry about it I haven't bothered yet either. I think the group will be big enough to spot.

      July 10, 2014

  • Donna

Hi Steve how long do you expect to be there? I can't make it till after 2 or maybe bit later, but more interested in playing rounders than eating! Most people will eat first? Thx

    July 8, 2014

    • steve w.

Hi Donna, I plan to be there until about 5 or 5.30. I imagine we will eat first then start playing about 2. We will have more than 1 game and will be pretty flexible with people joining mid-game, so I wouldn't worry too much about turning up later.

I am new to this what food do i bring

    July 6, 2014

    • steve w.

Whatever you like but I would suggest nothing too outlandish or hard to handle. Something to drink would be sensible too.

      July 7, 2014

  • steve w.

As a lot of new people are going whom may not recognize anybody then I will set up the rounders bases when I arrive. Just look for these around halfway along the Halls main front lawn, 3 mins walk from the car park. Entering from Wollaton Road entrance would be best if you don't know the layout of the park.

It sounds interesting. I'll like to come and I'll bring my notepad to communicate others due to being deaf.

    July 3, 2014

  • steve w.

Hi Bonnie, I am fine with you bringing a child but please be aware that people will be drinking, will have the option to smoke and might be thrashing rounders balls around in unpredictable directions. You need to be responsible for your own safety and that of anybody you bring along.

    July 2, 2014

  • Bonnie

I would like to attend, are children Ok? I have a 1 month old son.

    July 2, 2014

  • steve w.

I'll be getting the number 30 bus from stop J5 on Milton Street ( next to Vic centre ) at 12.05 if anybody wants to accompany me or doesn't know where the park is. I will be loaded with rounders gear, spot the 3 foot poles.
I'll go for a drink in Hand and Heart , Derby Road afterward ( it's on the way back into town), i'll be there about 6pm until whenever I get bored or can't stand up.

    June 25, 2014

  • Claire T

This sounds great. Gutted i can't make it. Hope the weathers good for you all :)

    June 8, 2014

    • steve w.

The weather will do as it's told. Shame you can't make it.

      June 8, 2014

  • steve w.

Just to make clear the rounders part is encouraged but optional. You can just come for a sit in the sun. For anybody who is unfamiliar rounders is the game softball or baseball is based on. I will bring bats, ball and bases.
