A Prototyping Case Study (and NoVA UX Turns 2!)

It's hard to believe it's been two years already! Come celebrate with us, enjoy some cake, and catch an interactive talk with two of our members sharing their experiences with product prototyping.

Let's Get to Work: A Prototyping Case Study

We are Brian Monzingo and Erik Isaksen—one designer and one engineer [Ed: both are from 3Pillar Global]. Working together, we designed and built an HTML prototype for a global investment company, but not everything went the way we planned.

This is an honest case study. We will share successes, failures, and major takeaways from our 6-week engagement so that other UX professionals can learn from our mistakes.

Through photos, sketches, wireframes, and other UX artifacts, we will explain how customer context influenced each step of the iterative design process—and how we can all use this to our advantage.

We will provide UX templates and toolkits to attendees and lead a fun, interactive group activity exploring context-driven design techniques.

Interesting talk with some good take aways. It was a little bit too high level for me, and I would have liked to hear about some more specific obstacles and challenges they faced and solutions they found during the course of their UX project.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. We wanted to do more detail but felt that we should focus on the take aways and our own learning experiences. I think it's a great idea to do a follow up workshop or more detailed talk focusing on one or two keep parts. It's a lot to absorb for someone not so familiar with the concepts as well. Hopefully we can do a workshop down the road on this. Feel free to email me with questions and I will answer whatever I can:

Will anyone hiring be there tonight? My contract just ended and I am looking for a new opportunity as a UI Developer, with some UX, to start immediately. I look forward to this meeting tonight. I always love to add UX knowledge to my skills and knowledge base. Pls let me know if you are hiring. Thank you, Anahita

What is UX ? Is this primariy website design ?

    May 26, 2014

    • Jim L.

UX encompasses several disciplines that can be applied to any product experience, not exclusively website design. Check out David Panarelli's slides linked to from our May event, Transitioning into UX. One of the slides outlines some of these disciplines, such as visual design, information architecture, interface design and others. Hope that helps. Welcome to the group!
