For our November meetup, we have a double-header and our first Google Hangout. First, we'll hear from Bill Wetherell, Senior Director of Design for AOL Mail, who's going to demo the new Alto mail client for us and talk about how his team approached re-envisioning email. Bill's in California, so we'll be setting up a Google Hangout for his presentation.
Then, Saf El Mansour will talk about the similarities between user experience and marketing. Here is a brief synopsis of his talk:
User experience is part of the overall customer experience of any product or service. UX's focus is moving from being object-centered to being emotional, behavioral, and experiential, and this is where design intersects with marketing and psychology. In this talk, we will discover how the fluffy stuff is essential to the user's experience of products, apps, and services everywhere. Knowing the customer, is knowing how they think, what they want, and how they want it to work. Unless you train your mind to think like a Marketer, your product will probably gather dust on app store shelf spaces, or worse, attract the consumer's anger and fury on blogs.
