This is a ride from the Reston Town Center heading west, all on the W&OD Trail. The event has ride options of 10, 20, or 52 miles which should be able to accommodate the most casual of riders. The rides are out and back, but the event's website does not list the turnaround points. Reston Town Center is between mile markers 18 and 18.5 on the trail. For half distance landmarks, five miles out would put you in Sterling at about Church St. Ten miles out would put you in Ashburn just past Ashburn Rd. 26 miles out puts you at the trail's end in Purcellville.
52 mile ride:
Here's where the fun starts... if you are going to do the 52 mile ride it is expected that you are a high medium or low advanced rider (see descriptions below ~ around 15 to 16 mph). The expected rest stops will be 10 miles out (Trailside Park) and then 26 miles out (Purcellville) which is your turn around point. You will stop again on the way back at mile 42 (Trailside Park) and then finish up when you get back to Reston Town Center (52 miles at between mile markers 18 and 18.5).
10 or 20 mile ride:
If you're going to do the 10 or 20 mile ride it will go something like this. We all will stop at the first rest stop (5 miles out) to regroup and bid farewell to the 10 mile riders since this is their turn around point. I will figure out before leaving Reston Town Center who is going to do the 10 mile ride and make sure you all know how to get back to the Reston Town Center after the turn around point. The 20 mile riders will continue on to the next rest stop which is OUR turn around point. Depending on how we all feel we may or may not stop on the way back at the first rest stop again ... I'll let the group decide.
After the ride, and if we got the timing right... the 20 milers will meet up with the 52 milers to hang out, catch up, and maybe have a beverage or two. At 1:00 there are closing ceremonies and an auction of a bike benefiting the Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC).
The Meeting Spot
We will meet right in front of the fountains located next to the pavilion at the Reston Town Center.
Dino will be leading the 50 + 2 mile riders. They will meet at the fountain at 7:00 am with an anticipated departure time of 7:15 am (must leave before 7:30 am).
Gary will be leading the 10 and 20 mile riders. We will meet at the fountain at 8:30 am with an anticipated departure time of 8:45 am (must leave before 9:00 am).
The registration tables are directly across from the fountain so I'm anticipating that riders will show up at 7:00 am or 8:30 am (respectively) with their bikes and stuff.... walk to the pavilion and get their registration packets.... use the restroom or whatever else needs to happen... we will basically be ready around 7:15 am or 8:45 am (respectively) where we will discuss the rules of the ride and other stuff and we will be rolling out promptly after that.

The Fine Print
An RSVP of 'YES' is your digital signature and means you have read and understood MEETUP.com's "Terms of Service : Section 6.2 " found HERE (http://www.meetup.com/terms/) and NOVA-CBG's "Assumption of Risk Agreement" found HERE (http://files.meetup.com/1557670/NOVA-CBG_WAIVER.pdf).
Remember that helmets are required to participate in all NOVA-CBG rides. NO Helmet, NO ride, NO exceptions. All riders ride at their own risk and with the understanding that cycling is an inherently dangerous activity. When coming to the meetup you do so voluntarily and are ready and able to participate in the ride as described under the conditions of the day.
Be on time for the "pre-ride" preparation. This is when we check to make sure you have all the required equipment and the last chance for you to make sure your bike is ready for the ride. We will also talk through the route for the day and review basic safety instruction for group riding as well as other important topics. If you do not attend the pre-ride preparation, you will not be allowed to participate on the ride, so please be on time as there will be NO exceptions. Please also keep in mind the group's cancellation policy when you RSVP.
