The Ride:
Looking for a challenging mid-week workout?  We've got an after work ride for you! This is a flat and fast ride from Jones Point to Fort Hunt starting on the Mt. Vernon trail, crossing over at Tulane, and onto the neighboring streets paralleling the GW Parkway to Fort Hunt Park.  Once we get to Fort Hunt, it will be a speed drill to do on your own or in a pace-line, whichever suits you, for up to six laps.

What the heck is the (+) all about?  This ride is meant to be a workout. We will maintain a consistent pace, between 19-20 mph on the flats, once we cross into the neighborhood at Tulane. The ride has two checkpoints to account for everyone but a sweep will NOT be provided. We ask that you come with the intent and drive to keep up the pace.

22 miles total (and that includes loops around Fort Hunt)

You will find us gathering under the bridge by the restrooms.

Don't know how to get there by car?

The Ride After The Ride:

After the ride we'll go to Faccia Luna for some light Italian cuisine.

Faccia Luna
823 South Washington Street
Alexandria, VA 22314
(www.faccialuna.com)

It is
more than a walk away but very close by car and there is plenty of street parking within 1-2 blocks.   Of course Southside is right next door, so if we all decide we want something heavier, we could always change course.

The Fine Print:

An RSVP of 'YES' is your digital signature and means you have read and understood MEETUP.com's "Terms of Service : Section 6.2 " found HERE (http://www.meetup.com/terms/) and NOVA-CBG's "Assumption of Risk Agreement" found HERE (http://files.meetup.com/1557670/NOVA-CBG_WAIVER.pdf).

Remember that helmets are required to participate in all NOVA-CBG rides. NO Helmet, NO ride, NO exceptions. All riders ride at their own risk and with the understanding that cycling is an inherently dangerous activity. When coming to the meetup you do so voluntarily and are ready and able to participate in the ride as described under the conditions of the day.

Be on time for the "pre-ride" preparation. This is when we check to make sure you have all the required equipment and the last chance for you to make sure your bike is ready for the ride. We will also talk through the route for the day and review basic safety instruction for group riding as well as other important topics. If you do not attend the pre-ride preparation, you will not be allowed to participate on the ride, so please be on time as there will be NO exceptions. Please also keep in mind the group's cancellation policy when you RSVP.

Haha. Thanks Steve. It was my pleasure. For those considering this ride, we roll at the advertised pace to and from Fort Hunt. Never faster. And rarely slower. Once at Fort Hunt, riders are welcome to go at any pace that suits them. Some find an extra gear and sprint away. Others recover from their personal "sprint" to Fort Hunt and prepare for the return trip Jones Point. We've added spaces to the July 8 ride and hope to see a few more people there.

Thanks for pulling the old guy along. Happy to help realize Joanne's promise to make it a drop ride! Seriously, happy for the push to get me to 16 overall (with getting lost) and almost 19 avg in 4 laps at Ft. hunt. I was going to skip the Thursday ride, now just looking to drop someone ... Anyone! And looking for unsuspecting prey on the Thursday ride. Thanks, guys!

Speaking of next time, I'd like to expand this ride to accommodate all of our faster riders -- those that cruise at 18mph and those that are smiling at 20+mph -- and set everyone up with an organized workout/drills at Fort Hunt. More to come.
