What would you like to get out of the group? Ideas? Friendship? Activism? Chocolate? Laughter?

I've only been aware of Humanism for a few years but it sums up perfectly how I feel about the world. It would be interesting to meet people with the same ideas and outlook. I think it would be good fun talking to people who are informed and care about the same things as myself. I also like the fact that the word "chocolate" appeared above this section. I don't know if I'm an activist or not, we'll have to see about that one. It would be good to make some friends, you can never have too many friends (this feels like writing an ad for a dating site). I've always enjoyed science and read as much as I can about the latest thinking and would love to find ways to advance my knowledge. I have a real need to understand things, how they work and why things do what they do.

What might 'Humanism' mean for you?

Humanism for me is the need to make sense of the world through rational thought. Through rational thought we gain a better understanding of what drives the Universe and also what drives people, all people. There are solutions to all the World's problems, but these solutions require original and pragmatic thinking. Thinking that is not born from faith or superstitious beliefs, but from the truth. Not my truth or their truth but a truth that makes sense and that can be tested. I want the world to be a better place (there I said it) and I want people to just get along. If we're all just getting along then just imagine what the human race could accomplish. I hate to think how much effort, expense and human misery is spent trying to destroy people who really just want the same things as everyone else.

I'm 45, married with one dog and two cats. Been an atheist my entire life. Have a strong moral compass and believe in just trying to get along with everyone. Strong interest in science. Want to meet like minded people. That's about it really.
