What: Experience the electric car at the Franklin! See, touch, feel, ride, drive, and learn all about the future of transportation, today! Also sit for a screening of the award-winning film "Revenge of the Electric Car" and see how the long-suppressed vehicles are making a resurgence on the market with a vengeance! National Plug-In Day is a nationwide celebration staged to heighten awareness of today’s widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the environmental and other benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. The second annual event will take the form of simultaneous EV activities staged in more than 50 cities coast to coast. Our goal is to bring our message to consumers, policymakers, the media, and the general public. The first National Plug In Day took place October 16, 2011. There were events in 29 cities nationwide with hundreds of vehicles and thousands of people participating. Dozens of national and local media outlets covered the events. For event highlights, see
. As in 2011, National Plug In Day 2012 is being organized by
Plug In America
, and the
Electric Auto Association
. Each of these organizations has committed staffing and other resources to this effort, and the three nonprofit organizations are coordinating closely with one another to make this event shine. Other organizations are also playing a role in making local events a success. This year Renew America Roadtrip is volunteering its time to coordinate the Philadelphia event to be held at the Franklin Institute Science Museum and will be exhibting their Tesla Motor's Sedan (if available) and Roadster. There will be "Ride and Drive" opportunities for attendees in many of the popular new electric cars incuding the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Mitsubishi Miev, BMW Active E, and Fisker Karma, and also electric motor bikes, scooters, hybrid bicycles, and Segways available. Ecotality will be demonstrating their residential and business charging solutions, Solar Journey USA will be stopping on their route cross country, and there will be a solar exhibit from Advanced Solar Industries and demonstrations of the science behind electric vehicles from the Tesla Science Foundation (including a live Tesla coil and wireless power demonstration). Mom's Clean Air Force will be there also so we can all breathe easier. The Revenge of the Electric Car movie will be showing at 3PM in the Demonstration Theatre in the Franklin and is free with general admission to the Franklin Institute. Come out and see, ride, learn, and even drive electric. If only Ben Franklin could see this! See you there.
