A little bird told us that Jorge Ortiz is in town so we're tying him down for an impromptu meetup. Ortiz is an early Scala user and Lift web framework committer who taught a Scala class at Stanford last year (CS94SI: Cross-Paradigm Programming with Scala). You may know him from his posts at scala-blogs.org and his frequent, insightful help on the Scala mailing list. This is your chance to meet Jorge Ortiz and receive his learned advice on good Scala programming. There will be "aha!" moments for Scala tourists and colonists alike. See you Thursday!

for new languages you really need advice from people who have gone ahead of you. Jorge does a great job of telling us what works for him. I especially liked his tips on naming and line endings. for any new language these things waste a lot of time.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
