Pick your patterns: Type Level Dependency Injection

Special guest Debasish Ghosh will be joining us. He's passing through New York after speaking at Philly ETE and will share some ideas about function currying as DI, composing with the Reader monad for real world scenarios. Bring your multi-paradigm thinking caps.

There was a discussion at the meeting about "point-free" coding style in Scala, here is a recent thread on the subject from the scala-language mailing list: https://groups.google.com/d/topi...

Thanks for hosting a good meetup! Are you guys going to post the slides from tonight's presentations? That would be great.

That would be awesome @Eric! Click on my name then click the send email link with how much you may want to cover.

With multiple presenters sometimes it's better to keep presentations shorter. Once I figure out who all would want to talk I can figure out how to divide the time. If it goes too long may be can split this into 2 meetups. Either way, shoot me an email.

I'd be happy to talk about Spring and Scala. Let me know.

Ok, We've got Debasish Ghosh to talk for ~ 30 min on function currying and the Reader Monad. I can talk for a bit on how you might use typeclasses as a means of implementing DI. Do I have any volunteers that may be able to chip in a small spot on their experience with cake or usage with with Java libs like Guice or Spring? I don't want this to go all night but it may be nice to get a well rounded summary of DI options in Scala.

i've been playing with aspects of cake pattern -- at times not sure i'm doing best things. could be my first time back to meetup hq and if my NE Scala t-shirt is still there, i'm coming for it (should i not forget again)

I can use event as an excuse to learn more about higher kinded types and volunteer to talk about the HKT side of things. Does anyone here have experience using java DI frameworks like Guice or Spring with Scala that they don't mind sharing? I may also look into the `cake` pattern.

Maybe contrast Scala DI patterns with spring or google guice...
