With Higher Order Functions, Enriched Classes, Parser Combinators, and more, see how to turn a downright awful Java API into something dramatically more powerful, safe, expressive and downright fun to use.
Josh Cough will demonstrate this by showing off the Scala 2.10 version of his Minecraft server plugin API. This talk will be accessible to Java programmers interested in Scala, yet substantial enough for Scala veterans.
Sorry guys, our speaker can't make it! Josh is in Boston; the New York office that he was going to work out of next week was flooded. Also the Meetup office has no power right now, tho the lights should be back by Saturday. We'll reschedule with Josh once things settle down.
We could actually still meetup on Tuesday, if people are interested. I've have a Dispatch talk I gave in Berlin a few months ago. It would be nice, after days of sitting around at home where at least I have power, to actually have a meetup to look forward to. What do you guys say? If there's enough interest expressed in the comments I'll set it up.

Not speaking for meetup, but as a new Yorker. At this moment, manhattan south of about 29th st is without power. HOV limitations with a minimum of 3 people are in effect for the island of manhattan. There is limited subway service on the island, most trains stopping at 42nd st. Given the location of the meetup office, I would assume they are affected unless you hear otherwise. Gasoline in the city and new jersey is also becoming a problem.
