5 people get 5 minutes each to demo something cool to New York's tech community.
* January Presenters * - BitWine - people can buy and sell Talent and Knowledge, in real-time, using audio, video and real time billing. - Daylife - a system that automatically organizes news from thousands of sources, presenting it in a variety of ways and making connections you never knew existed. - Citizen Image - service professionally representing everyday photographers to editorial and creative buyers. - An animation technique which uses free software and cheap electronics to make a traditionally tedious and time consuming art into something fun and accessible - Changingthepresent - a comprehensive new marketplace for the social sector, facilitating donation gifts (charitable donations made in a friend's name) in lieu of giving more unwanted merchandise.
Don't forget that we'll be passing the hat for $5 per person to cover venue rental.
“ I'd have to say this was one of the better NY Tech Meetups. The ideas and presentations seemed more original than at previous events. Daylife looked especially promising, definitely worth investigating further.
I thought the animation technique that was demonstrated was interesting, and I like the idea of having someone demo something other than Yet another So-Called Web 2.0 Social Networking Site.
Finally, discussing the new Apple iPhone was a great idea since it is newsworthy and significant to the tech community. Perhaps, whenever there is important news related to technology, it could be included in a brief discussion at the end of the meeting. ”
“ Presentations are too short. Give the presenters at least 10 minutes. Five minutes is too short for a time to convey the necessary information. It would also help if Scott did a thorough introduction of each presenter - clearly stating their name, their background, their company, the background of their company and the name and purpose of the product BEFORE they the talk begins. Otherwise there is no context for the presentation.
One presenter even stated 'a lot of you have been hearing
a buzz about ...' - hot flash, most of us haven't even
heard of your company or product - and THOSE are the people
you are presumably there to tell them about it. If the basic precepts of 'Communication 101' were followed it would make the meetup a much more valuable experience for the audience. ”
“ This was my first meetup and it was awesome! There's lots of creativity there. One suggestion: On the website mention the length of the event and also mention where the after party will be. Cheers! ”
“ Teally good engagement and demos - great products.
As "areas for improvment"...I'd like to see wireless mikes for audience questions as well as having the meeting start on time ”
