Tonight sold out at 500 RSVPs, but we just opened it up to 600. Spread the word.

5 people get 5 minutes each to demo something cool to New York's tech community. We've got tech about gripes, getting to LGA, mobile pics, students showing the $175 laptop, and the [somewhat] new thing by the former head of Jupiter.

Thanks to the quality VC firm of DFJ Gotham and the esteemed law firm of Wilson Sonsini for helping rent the room.

Who attended?

  • 367 attendees
    •  not as compelling as tech meetups i've seen in the past. somewhat lacked passion.
    •  agree that announcements are getting a little out of hand
    •  Presenters were difficult to hear and didn't have anything particularly interesting to say. The technology they used common place and the business models did not break through in any way. The weakest meetup I've attended
    •  Picking up the money at the beginning of the session created delays, which was bad. Let's go back to the old ways of getting the donations.
    •  Some really great presenters. Maybe more structure for the Q&A?
    •  Felt like the most crowded one yet. Good presenters but I agree, drags on with all the announcements at the end. I like having the time to network with people. Let the people that want to announce something stand in a certain section / have tables with their stuff.
    •  I had a wonderful time presenting and enjoyed the crowd very much!
    •  Quality was down lately -- we want to see some hot tech!
    •  One blatant Dodgeball rip-off and an ideas man pitching us his taxi-sharing service do not a great meetup make.
    •  Talk should not be only about the product, but also about company/market/competition, etc.
    •  too short! and costs 5 bucks just to ATTEND and not even advertise shit! you should charge advertisers money ... i wouldn't mind listening to a bozo venting on his services or whatever meaningless crap he has to offer....I will just take a "bathroom" break when it happens.... i could have used that 5 bucks to my dinner! I am a student not an investor or what have you not ... kudos to the meetup.com team though! ben
    •  This was my first time attending the NYTech meet up after always R.S.V.P yes , I finally came out and took a family member along who is in the same field. Who enjoyed it as well.
    •  Lots of fun to see so many people all interested in the same stuff I'm interested in in the same place! Very well paced and organized.
    •  Being my first NY Tech Meetup, my first meetup for that matter, I felt that the presentations kept my interest it had a good variety from weekend projects to full scale products -- I'm glad to hear about things like Mouse and see high school kids involved in computers.
    •  I thought the presentations were weak. Had someone pre-screened the presenters, VentBox would have been eliminated. Second, I liked the announcements and wish the CEO hadn't discouraged them.
    •  MOUSE kids were amazing. houseparty.com well presented. Hitcher--also very interesting.
    •  Scott is a fantastic emcee/moderator/texpert.
    •  My first meetup. Was fun!
    •  Started late. Presenters good, although not incredible. Would be nice to have some food/drinks or a bar to meet at after.
    •  Companies selected could have been better. Enjoyed the OLPC, the rest were nothing special
    •  I think that the elimination of announcements is unfortunate, but necessary... There were too few good announcements for the number of bad ones...
    •  all the new websites and ideas that are coming up are super interesting.
    •  Since the presentations seem to often start late, I'd suggest allowing some "announcements" up front while things are being set up.
    •  presenters and their ideas were not as good as previous months. Event started late.
    •  waste of time
    •  no time to schmooze and meet people.
