NY Tech September Meetup

“ This was my first meetup. I thought it was run well and overall the speakers were interesting. What impressed me the most is how friendly everyone was. It was truly an environment to network and meet new people. ”

“ scott should introduce himself by name every time, and maybe give a sentence about what the meetings are about [orients new people]. it's good that he keeps presenters to time, but it's not school, so he can also be loose with whatever happens [serendipity sometimes leads to interesting moments, and loosens everything up]. introducing interesting people in the audience is good too, as he did tonight with david rose [but not with jimmy wales] ”

“ The NY Tech Meetup is an institution, and a valuable one, but I think there is work to be done. Providing the 500 people attending with better tools to network with one another (beyond name tags and "turn and talk to your neighbor") would help people get value out of the meetup. Also, I think Meetup needs to better define the criteria for companies who present at the NY Tech Meetup, because they have been all over the place the last few months. There are a lot of interesting tech companies in NYC. Let's make sure they are presenting here. ”

“ A little hard to follow everyone's talks as they were being rushed along, but it was an awful lot to pack in, and all-in-all pretty well done, especially for the number of people. ”

“ I thoroughly enjoyed it, but - and this is a serious offer - I would be happy to provide free presentation skills training for those crucial five minutes to any future demo presenters. (It's not just what you demo, it's the way that you demo it.) As someone who's done a huge amount of presenting (working in advertising, you have to!), there are some small simple things even nervous presenters could do to help themselves come across more compellingly. Otherwise, it was a great range of demos - particularly enjoyed the iRetroPhone - and I met some nice people, including someone from a class I taught several years ago whom it was great to reconnect with. I really liked the feeling of NY Tech camaraderie, and all power to Scott for seeking to reinforce solidarity via screenlessness!! ”

“ Excellent selection of presentations! Totally wowed by the guys presenting and what their companies are upto. Especially liked Boxee(sp), Angelsoft, iRetroPhone, Eopter. Great job guys!! ”

“ This form is awful. YOU put on the meeting, YOU should be counting the number of people who attended. Why are you asking attendees? We would only be estimating. Is your plan is to see how an attendee's estimate differs from the actual count? This is hurting my brain. Anyway, the meeting was great. They always are. And you guys provide wifi. That is THE BEST. There are two problems, though, and the first is THE CHAIRS. You put them TOO CLOSE together. We cannot all afford subnotebooks or the MacBook Air. Some of us have big laptops and are terrified that Large People sitting next to us will elbow our screens out. And PLEASE find a new room with outlets in the floor so we can plug our laptops in for power. The number of people who have to stop computing halfway through the meeting because their batteries run out is appalling. ”

“ I'm not sure what I got out of this one... the Boxee demo looked impressive, but I don't know that I'd use it. The iRetroPhone and the tooth thing... I just don't know. Not trying to be negative, maybe it just wasn't my night. The Meetup claymation ad was entertaining. ”
