October 2010 NY Tech Meetup

Come join 850 fellow technologists for an (extra spooky!) evening of tech demos and networking.

Please remember to bring a digital or physical copy of your Meetup confirmation / Amazon payment receipt. Additionally, note that we will be reselling any unused tickets at 7:20 PM to make sure we can accommodate everyone.

Ticket process is becoming a real hassle - more demand than supply - so suggest going bi-weekly to keep the community growing....

Swapping tickets is a-okay. However, if someone attempts to charge you more than $10, please let me know at brandon@nytm.org.

We're definitely aware of the supply/demand issues and are working on bigger venues. For the time being, follow me at @brandondiamond for advance warning on ticket releases.

Hello all. My business partner and I are working on a start-up that offers a series of online business-to-business tools for the fashion industry. We have the content-side down pat, but we are looking for a partner who knows the tech side and can help us build out a basic model. It's a partnership opportunity, so no paycheck, but the potential is huge. If you are interested in this, shoot me an email at caitlin@threadfirst.com - maybe we can even have a post meet-up drink tomorrow night!

@Michelle Carlton, I believe that NYU gives out a 100 or so tickets to their students/community etc (in exchange for using the venue). The community at large gets the rest of the tickets. So the actual number of attendees can hit 850

Its too big. People can't even attend the meetings if they are not in front of their machines or cannot access meetup.com from their corporate (ie, work) site.

I think its time to split the group into more focused communities. One for web design, front-end, application-centric. The other more application-dev oriented, more techie.

It would be great if under "past meetups" someone re-wrote the description, so that it included the names and links of the companies that presented.

Great content; so much jammed into two hours. It's clear why this is hard to get tickets to. Would be great if we could get temporary guest access to NYU wifi during the event, since so many of the demos with interactive components rely on our having internet access (or cellphone) signal.

BUT no phone signal or wifi access = major bummer for presenters and attendees!
  • Ken Labach
My first NYTM - great format, great content, great opportunity to connect. This becomes a priority in my calendar!
  • Eric Niederman
Lots of great presentations jam-packed into this one.
  • Margaux Zion
    Excellent group, astonishing presentations!
  • Luis Morales
Well organized and good presentations. Looking forward to the next one.
  • Dean
enjoyable presentations. fantastic MC job from Nate with a very complex agenda. would love the after-party to be less Disco and more Lounge. It was difficult to network in that environment, which I think is the goal of many of the attendees in addition to seeing the demos.
  • Mike Street
Awesome meetup and some really great demo's.
  • Rick Eaton
Awesome event showing the strength of the Silicon Alley community. Nice job!
  • Mike Schwimmer
Great experience. This was my first NY Tech meetup and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was very impressed with the quality of the products and how prepared they were for the audience's questions and suggestions. I did not fully understand the point of the Galvanize application but all of the others were great!
  • Aaron Harris
The meetup was ok. There were a bunch of cool products/companies, but, at 2+ hours, it lacks the kind of tightness that I would want to see. People started trickling out well before the end, which is a shame.
  • Rich Yang
Very good. First time attendance. Def. will go again.
  • Peter Propp
Another outstanding event -- Nate has a great way of making a big room feel like a community. Great Demos, we should get ATT to add a mobile repeater to the room!
  • David Markowitz
great lineup of speakers/demos; only issue are the network problems that impact the demos (and the audience).
  • Daniel

It was a little too long. Like to see them finish by 8:30.

Amazing demos and a good time. Nate was excellent as an MC. Funny and gracious.
  • Dana C
The demos were interesting and I met some very smart and cool people.
  • Frank Denbow
Great demos. Well executed. Good people.
  • Kris Minkstein
Tons of demos - great stuff
  • Ernie
I had a great time! Thanks Nate and all the presenters!
  • Joe Vadakkekara
    another great lineup. thnx [masked]
  • Kat Karimi
Great lineup - would put the real tech co's earlier in the night, though. And not sure if putting GroupMe and FastSociety back to back was such a great idea - just exemplified how much better GroupMe is.
