Ah, I think there might be some clarity on the reason for this. I just got this email from NYTMer Eric Bertelsen:

Hey Eddie - saw Anthony Zeoli's email about you being banned from NYTM, and thought I'd share a possible reason for you getting the boot.

A couple days ago I saw this Meetup email from another group, NYC Web Design, about an idea you had. I've been a reader from afar on the NYTM list, so I recognized your name and decided to read on until realizing it was spam. I thought this was strange, coming from you (or at least your user name), but then didn't really think much of it again until now.

Perhaps you've been hacked or some other nefarious activity is being performed in your name?

-Eric, hoping you make it back on the list soon!

As far as I know, no, my email wasn't hacked. I remember putting up that Idea on the NYC Web Design Meetup -- I'm a subscriber to Website Magazine, and I thought that it would be a nice idea to spread the news of a discounted magazine subscription with the rest of the group. Other than being a satisfied subscriber, I have no other affiliation with the magazine. Perhaps I should have made that clear when I posted that there, so that's my bad...but at the same time, it would have been nice if the Organizer of that Meetup group, who knows me personally, had let me in on this before pulling the plug (if indeed that's how it went down). I'm a member of that group, and have been for awhile, including regularly attending Meetups, etc. If someone on that group thought that I was spamming them, I'm quite unpleasantly surprised. If by doing a good thing I get punished for it in this way, once my Meetup account gets reinstated, I shall have to do a rethink about my continued membership of that particular Meetup group.

Ah well. Just another day in paradise. I'll continue to keep y'all posted.

Eddie, the struggle continues...
