All of my friends and family on the west coast were like "meh" when I was going on and on about this quake (my first one ever)...and they all echoed Calvin's advice which thank God, I somehow knew beforehand but couldn't really implement because 1) all my tables and desks have glass tops, and 2) I don't trust this building! :) 

As for the seemingly-crazy reaction to the quake by just about everyone here -- going outside instead of staying indoors and under a doorway/solid table -- well, my people say that no one can smell their hand and know what to do...they have to have been educated beforehand.
