When an XML tag simply maps to "format this paragraph like Word97", it's
only really helpful to Microsoft, and for users using Microsoft tools.
So I'm not really sure what's "nice" about it.
However, HTML, CSS, SVG, et al are open, clearly documented formats,
most with plenty of code available, and generally have good
interoperability (Internet Explorer 6 notwithstanding, which you must
admit had absolutely horrible CSS support).
