Perhaps, but this way, they get a kickback from ATT, /and/ they make
money by selling the phone to whoever wants it -- without the pesky
hassles of supporting people that they aren't getting a kickback from.
It's not as if unlocked and hacked iPhones aren't already all the rage
among certain circles...
