We're currently scouting South Brooklyn... Don't want to give too much away, but we're both giant nerds, so wi-fi and power outlets will be in serious supply.?

Thats a good idea and I suggest using Twitter or Twittervision for this group. An account need to be created by the user name: NYC Meetup where you can sign in and chose to follow the group members where ever they go: Cafe to code, conference, meetup, etc and maybe create new friends.
It's a good way to know and communicate with each other on the go by SMS.

Awesome to get responses so quickly, I guess we're gonna end up listing too many places, (that's the problem with NY, too much to choose from), so I'll send invites to collaborate on a google doc to everyone
that's replied with options so far, you'll have the ability to invite others as well.

Once we finish working on this google doc, we can publish it at http://newtech.meetup.com/1/files/ <http://newtech.meetup.com/1/files/>

I'll bootstrap the google doc with the initial listings, and a proposed format to list the places.

Hopefully we'll organically decide what the best place to meet regularly out of this simple effort.

The document is publicly available here

NYC is to overrun with Starbucks in order to have a descent location.

Hi,
I've always heard that there's plenty of places on the west coast where techies go for coffe, beer, or just sit down with their laptops.
Does anyone here know if there's such a thing here in NY? and if not? what would you guys propose as hangout places for techies.
If anyone knows of a good place with free fast wifi, where you can just sit and code all day in the city please recommend it.

Gubs.
