I am not
a recruiter (I like introducing people too much to
get paid for it); I prefer to get paid solving business operations and
strategy problems. But I have worked with many for years.
Whoever you deal with, check them out. Intensely. Check who their
references are. If they ever speak about an opportunity, be absolutely
sure that they have a contract and relationship, not hoping for it.
Check the differences between contingency and retainer recruiters.
Matter of fact, pick up a copy of "Rites of Passage" by John Lucht.
Some fluff and kitsch in there, but the basics are sound and really
important. Remember incentives and how they matter.
There are some slick and slimy recruiters, some nice but incompetent
ones, and there are some really first-class ones at all levels. Work
with the right ones, and things can be great.
Just my $0.02.
Is there anyone out there that
can recommend a solid, reputable recruiter in the NYC area within the
Information Technology realm?
My background is in networking with
heavy experience in the financial industry. The IT world is truly a
tight community in which I trust and respect advice.
