I admit I did not.  I was trying to defend you when Anthony said that what you said about not learning photoshop was Probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard uttered on this list.

I just wanted to make it clear that having a photoshop designed website is not a critical factor in having a popular website.

Yes Brian, I think you are transforming what I said into a completely different discussion.
Btw, did you even read the links that I posted?

I believe it, but the point is you can have an insanely popular website that doesn't have top notch 'design'.

The original gmail prototype was built in a day. I don't think it went through the design department.  He just built it.

Anyway, I already explained myself with links to real evidence. I kind if get tired of repeating myself.

Yeah I'm looking at right now, and I couldn't imagine they thought this thing up without Photoshop.

Well the OP did say build. People do build professional websites without Photoshop as I have illustrated.  Since people are slicing less and using more CSS, Ps is less important.

If you are going to learn both skills great. However, I know more than one designer who prefers Fireworks these days.  If you don't have any basic design skills, simply buying Photoshop isn't going to help.

One again, my two original links come highly recommended as places to learn both skills.
