While sales are not guaranteed in the Mac App Store, you need to know that the Mac App Store does not offer a strict licensing model. In fact once a user buys your app from the Mac App Store they can install it on as many computers as they want, unlike iOS apps which can only be installed on a limited number of devices.
Depending on your target audience you should decide whether this licensing model fits your business.
To prevent unauthorized installations of your app from users who did not buy it from the App Store, to run, you will have to implement app store receipt validation.
