And you have to assume that Fred sees everything and he sees it early. He is good at what he does, prob best in SiliconAlley, maybe the world. But you aren't going to tell him how to spend both his and his investors money just like you aren't going to tell Derek Jeter which pitch to hit. Fred's firm has made investments he hasn't. There are some lessons to be learned here and it goes beyond why not? A review of the union square portfolio as well as Fred's earlier experience at Flatiron may give you some clues. I have some thoughts but they aren't ready to share until more fully thought out.

I know USV is a partnership and lets face it...regardless of who brings in the deal Fred will have some input but 450 days seems a lot of meetings in one of the busiest startup cities in the world to not even find one company worth investing in.

Cant all be photos of cats......

This post from Fred is pretty insightful:

The BI article did link to this post and it states that other USV partners did make investments, he just hasn't and doesn't appear to be comfortable with that reality either.

Zubin.

USV has a pretty particular investment criteria.  They’re investing for fundamental transformation.  There can be plenty of decent investments that don’t fit that description.  The real kudos is for sticking firm to the philosophy.
